Curse of the Nomed

After the successful launch of Curse of The Nomed at Birmingham Library - the book written by BB Taylor based on characters developed by Year 8s at Four Dwellings, over 1000 copies have been sold, helping to raise over £20,000 so far for Partnership for Children

Students attended round 2 of Debate Mate's Urban Debate League last night with amazing results. Pupils showed off their communication skills and delivered some truly wonderful speeches. Well done FDA debate team!

Congratulations to Abbie Mai who recently passed her Grade 4 in Musical Theatre with distinction!  She was a star at the Christmas Concert - well done Abbie Mai!

High Achievers Language Conference

Ten high achieving pupils from year 8 today attended a conference especially put on for the best language learners in the city. The annual conference, organised by the South West Area Network of Schools gives opportunities for high achieving language learners from a dozen schools to get together to improve their language skills and find out more about the importance of having language qualifications in the 21st century workplace. 
The conference started with a 45 minute performance of “Mes chers voisins”, a play in French by the Onatti Theatre Company and pupils from all the schools were mixed up into different groups and sent to learn a new language with one of the expert teachers from one of the local schools. Languages on offer included Russian, German, Italian, Spanish and Latin. Pupils were amazed by how quickly they picked up the basics of these languages – for example some learned how to write their own name using the Russian alphabet.
Congratulations to all our participants in taking part in an excellent day with such enthusiasm.

Business Language Champions

Six high-flying year 10 pupils recently spent the day at RAF Cosford in Shropshire. Four Dwellings Academy was one of 11 schools from across the region who were chosen to take part in the Business Language Champions event at the famous Air Force base. The day was full of inspirational talks, challenges and language related tasks to test out the GCSE French pupils’ skills.

Educational Outcomes Award

Four Dwellings is proud to have been awarded an Educational Outcomes Award for 2016 to recognise our excellent 2016 performance where Progress 8 showed us in the top 10% of schools nationally!  We are really proud of pupils, staff and the wider community for making this happen.
