High Achievers Language Conference

posted 12 Feb 2018, 12:58 by Jake Greenwood

Ten high achieving pupils from year 8 today attended a conference especially put on for the best language learners in the city. The annual conference, organised by the South West Area Network of Schools gives opportunities for high achieving language learners from a dozen schools to get together to improve their language skills and find out more about the importance of having language qualifications in the 21st century workplace.
The conference started with a 45 minute performance of “Mes chers voisins”, a play in French by the Onatti Theatre Company and pupils from all the schools were mixed up into different groups and sent to learn a new language with one of the expert teachers from one of the local schools. Languages on offer included Russian, German, Italian, Spanish and Latin. Pupils were amazed by how quickly they picked up the basics of these languages – for example some learned how to write their own name using the Russian alphabet.
Congratulations to all our participants in taking part in an excellent day with such enthusiasm.
