We are excited to announce that we are running our first Diversity Week from 3rd to 7th November 2014. The main aim of the week is for pupils to explore the influences that have shaped our heritage and to celebrate the diversity of different cultures in our own locality and in Britain.

There are a range of activities and opportunities for pupils to participate in including learning about World War One, sampling food from around the world in the canteen, watching short films at lunch and a tutor group quiz. Each curriculum department will also incorporate and celebrate diversity in their lessons. We are also welcoming Year 5 and 6 pupils from Four Dwellings
Primary Academy who will take part in a project researching 'Famous Brummies', learn to play the Indonesian Gamelan in a music lesson and create a mask with the art department.

Key Stage 3 have been looking at diversity already this half term - the logo to the left was designed by Allanah McDermott and will adorn work and posters throughout the week.

The poem below was the winning entry by Mia Murrell in an acrostic poetry competition!

Different people, different lives

In different shapes and different sizes

Varies between different families

Each culture has it’s different abilities,

Respect this difference in each person

Since it is impossible to be perfect

Ignore the bitter words they say

They’re all lying and ruining your day,

You are all diverse
