Dear Parents/Carers,

You may already be aware that there is a day of industrial action on Tuesday 1st October 2013 involving two teaching unions. This is not related to the academy but is part of wider regional industrial action.

I am contacting you on behalf of the Governing Body, to inform you that the school will be closed for Years 7-11 on Tuesday 1st October. This is due to the greatly reduced staffing levels that are expected on the day.

On a day such as this when some staff will be in and others not, all pupils would experience interruptions to their learning for most, if not all of the day. In addition, national union agreements do not permit the use of other teachers to cover for members of staff that are taking industrial action. It is not possible to open the school to Years 7-11 as we cannot guarantee teacher-pupil ratios.

Staff not involved in industrial action will be working in school on planning, preparation and assessment.

I apologise for any disruption this will cause and thank you in advance for your understanding.

Yours sincerely

Becky Elcocks

Principal
